Welcome to the Mount Rainier Climbing Incidents Map

The Mount Rainier Climbing Incidents Map is an interactive map that geographically recognizes climbing incidents, which have occurred on Mount Rainier: the map represents all fatal climbing related incidents that have occurred on Mount Rainier since 1980.

The Mount Rainier Climbing Incidents Map is meant to be used as an educational tool for future mountaineers of Rainier and other high elevation pursuits. It was created by climbers and cartographers with the intent to increase climbing safety. It is with great honor and respect that the creators of the map mapped and recorded the incidents of those who have lost their lives on The Mountain.

This map was created with immeasurable support and assistance of Mike Gauthier, chief climbing ranger for Mount Rainier National Park. A very special thanks to Mike Gauthier and his climbing staff for their advocacy as this map becomes established.
